Implant posts are designed to last decades. The restorations attached to them are not. Crowns can chip, abutment screws can loosen, and implant-supported bridges or dentures can wear at the attachment points. When that happens, the implant itself is usually still sound — only the restoration needs attention.
At Rita Marroghi DDS, we restore and repair existing implants so you can chew comfortably and smile confidently again, without replacing the implant itself.
Your treatment typically involves two appointments.
At the first visit, your dentist examines the implant and surrounding tissue, checks the stability of the post, and takes X-rays to confirm the bone support is healthy. Impressions are taken so a new crown, bridge, or attachment can be fabricated to fit your implant precisely and match your natural teeth.
At the second visit, the new restoration is seated, adjusted for bite and comfort, and secured. Your dentist checks that it feels natural and functions correctly before you leave.
Simple repairs, such as tightening a loose abutment screw or re-cementing a crown, can often be completed in one visit.
You may need implant restoration if you notice:
If you experience pain, swelling, or bleeding around an implant, contact us promptly — these can indicate a problem with the implant itself rather than the restoration.
An implant cannot decay, but the gum and bone supporting it can become inflamed. Peri-implantitis is the leading cause of implant failure, and it is preventable with regular professional care.
During your restoration appointment, your dentist also assesses the health of the tissue around the implant and recommends a cleaning schedule to protect it long term.
Restoring an existing implant requires identifying the implant system, matching components correctly, and fitting a restoration that works with your bite. It is precise work, and it benefits from experience.
Dr. Marroghi has over 25 years in restorative dentistry and takes the time to assess the whole picture — the implant, the surrounding tissue, and how the restoration functions against your other teeth.
Implant restorations need the same daily attention as natural teeth, plus a little extra around the gumline:
