Losing teeth changes more than appearance. Chewing becomes limited, which narrows what you can comfortably eat. Speech changes. And without the teeth supporting them, the cheeks and lips lose their shape, which ages the face.
A well-made denture addresses all of this. At Rita Marroghi DDS, each denture is designed around your bite, your facial proportions, and how you actually use your mouth day to day.
Complete dentures replace all the teeth in the upper or lower jaw. They rest directly on the gums and are held by suction, fit, and the surrounding muscles.
Partial dentures replace several missing teeth when healthy natural teeth remain. They clip to the remaining teeth with clasps or precision attachments, and also stop the remaining teeth from drifting into the gaps.
Immediate dentures are placed on the same day teeth are extracted, so you are never without teeth. They need relining once healing is complete, as the gums change shape considerably in the first months.
A broken denture is not something that can wait until next week. We repair dentures on site, often while you wait, so you are not left without teeth.
We also offer same-day denture services. If you have a denture that has cracked, chipped, lost a tooth, or no longer fits comfortably, call the office and we will advise on the fastest option
Conventional dentures typically involve four to six appointments over several weeks.
Impressions are taken of your gums and any remaining teeth, followed by measurements of how your jaws relate and how you bite. A wax try-in lets you see the shape, size, and shade before the denture is finished — this is your opportunity to ask for changes.
The finished denture is then fitted and adjusted. Several short adjustment visits in the following weeks are normal and expected, as pressure points only reveal themselves once you are wearing and eating with them.
New dentures take adjusting to, and it helps to know that in advance:
Most patients adapt within a month. Do not attempt to adjust a denture yourself — a small change in fit can create a large sore spot.
The jawbone gradually changes shape after teeth are lost, so a denture that fit perfectly will loosen over time.
Most dentures need relining every two to three years to restore the fit, and replacing every five to ten years. A loose denture is not something to tolerate or manage with adhesive — it causes sore spots and accelerates bone loss.
Denture work depends on getting the details right: the bite, the tooth position, the shade, and the fit against tissue that changes over time. It also depends on being available when something goes wrong.
Dr. Marroghi has over 25 years of experience in denture treatment, and the practice offers repairs and same-day services at both the Walled Lake and Pontiac offices.
